Frequently asked question

What is the working principle of solar panels?

Solar panels work using the photovoltaic (PV) effect. When sunlight hits the solar cells, it excites electrons inside the material (usually silicon). This creates an electric current, which is then converted into usable electricity by an inverter. In short:
Sunlight → DC electricity → Inverter → Usable AC power for your home.

Most appliances can run on solar, but some high-power or sensitive items may be difficult unless the system is large enough. Examples:

  • Central AC units (very large ones)
  • Electric water heaters
  • Electric ovens or stoves
  • Large space heaters
  • Heavy industrial machinery

Solar can power these only if your system is sized correctly.

The 120% rule (from the National Electrical Code) means:
Your solar system can be connected to your main electrical panel only if the combined rating of the solar breaker and main breaker does not exceed 120% of the panel’s busbar rating. It prevents wires and breakers from overheating.

The best time is during peak sunlight hours, typically 10 AM to 4 PM.
This is when your solar panels produce the most energy, helping you:

  • Reduce grid usage
  • Lower electricity bills

Use your solar power more efficiently

Some reasons include:

  • Moving to a new home
  • Old systems needing replacement
  • Damage from weather or age
  • Bad installation from cheap companies
  • Roof renovations
  • High maintenance costs for outdated technology

Modern solar panels are more efficient, so some people upgrade rather than keep older systems.

No. You should not unplug solar panels at night. Solar panels automatically stop producing electricity when there is no sunlight. The inverter shuts down safely on its own. You only disconnect panels during:

  • Maintenance
  • Repairs
  • System upgrades
  • Safety reasons

Otherwise, leave them connected.
